Hi-Rez

This song, ‘Smiling’ by Fort Lauderdale, Florida rapper ‘Hi-Rez’ is a great example of doing a hip-hop sample right. The song he sampled from is, ‘Midnight City’ by M83. The pitch, effects, and equalization were all altered and provided an excellent beat for Rez to flow over, all the while, still retaining a coherent version of the original song. Watch for me to post more from him but for now check this song out and go to…

This song, ‘Forever‘ by Tyler Cassidy is more than at first it seems. You may recall an “unintelligent, country rapper” by the name of Krispy Kreme who had appeared on Tosh.0 last year. Well, would you believe me if I told you that this song is done by the same person…? As it turns out, Krispy Kreme or Froggy Fresh as he has recently changed his rap persona to, is actually a recent High School graduate who, believe it or not, graduated at the top of his class with a 3.95 GPA. If you watch the way his videos’ progressed from his first until now, each time the lyrics and visual quality get better and better. I’ve caught on to this and realize now, how genius he really is.

His confidence and “dumb, poorly written” raps gained him notoriety and people would watch them for a laugh. Little did these people know that they feel into his trap perfectly. The word spread and put him on Tosh.0 which equates to more exposure. Now, with a fan base, be it false or not, he can gradually reveal his true skills as an emcee. Look up his old work and listen then to his more recent ‘Froggy Fresh’ stuff and you will see what I am talking about. Soon enough his alternate personas will fade into the past and Tyler Cassidy will likely be all that remains, and mark my words, this kid has some serious skill and knows what he is doing. Watch out for him in the future, check out the links below for some of his different work.

^^^^^^^^See the progression and how he is slowly revealing his real skill?!

I have a lot of respect for Tyler, taking advantage of the way the media exploited his early work that really sucked (but intentionally). His story could be viewed as a hilarious satire. Good work Mr. Cassidy.

What is the quality that a perfect artist possesses? Personally, I think it would be having the versatility to appeal to any sort of person. Dumbfoundead, is one of the few artists that I have come across in my days with this ability. His entire music catalog is so diversified that he can appeal to hard Hip-Hop heads, or, even across the spectrum, to people who don’t particularly listen to rap music. He does this through the combination of his mastery of lyrics and flow, while being able to rap over any style of beat. He has also garnered some fame from his ‘King Of The Dot‘ (KOTD) rap battling days which is a different collective of fans. Communicating with your fans will help them to build a relationship with you and your music, this is exactly what DFD does through hisTwitter and other social media sites, so props to him for that.

Here is a song he mad a few years back called ‘Bullets Of Truth‘ off of his album ‘Fun With Dumb‘. Does it still stand the test of time? DOES IT EVER! Lyrically this is my favorite DFD song and that is hard to say for an artist as high-caliber as he is. Do not let this song go unheard any longer! Check out my last post, in which I reviewed DFD’s newest mixtape ‘Old Boy Jon‘!

These two goony fellas are known as Terminal Knowledge and Accumental, but together are referred to as, The Palmer Squares. Ever read a dictionary? Well, I wouldn’t doubt if these two had. This is one of the most interesting Hip-Hop duos to ever exist. Their extensive vocabulary affords them opportunities to flow and mix and match words from the english language together in ways no one has ever thought of.

From being called out in Cyphers monthly by artists such Dumbfounded (@dumbfoundead) to working with Wax (@bigwax) on songs, these guys are no strangers to rap and it’s community. They are, however, way overlooked and far too unheard of. Let’s change that. Check ’em out! @PalmerSquares

This is a brand new song just released by Kid Cudi, that will apparently have a slot on his forthcoming, third studio album called, ‘Indicud’. It is set to release on a yet, undetermined date “later this year”. The complex beat in this offering from Mr. Rager himself, is complemented by his simplified classic Hip-Hop lyrics. The tone itself reminded me a lot of the song ‘Mr. Rager’ off of ‘The Man On The Moon II: The Legend Of Mr. Rager’, which in my opinion is one of the greatest albums of all time. Keep up with Cudi via his twitter and make sure you support ‘Indicud’ when it is released later in 2013. https://twitter.com/ducidni

These are two very underrated Hip-Hop artists known as Ubiquitous and Godemis that together form the collective known as Ces Cru. They just got officially signed to Strange Music label by Tech N9ne in January of 2012. Lyrically, these two are are top notch. They are both versatile artists when it comes to their flows and the beats they flow over. They have released an EP together called, ’13’ and their first album under Strange is called, ‘Constant Energy Struggles’ which is set to release 3/26/2013. You can pick up their free solo-mixtapes as well, on http://www.datpiff.com
The singles they have leaked for their album instantly put it on top of my albums to watch for in 2013. Check them out!

What better way to start off a Hip-Hop blog than with a brand new video. This is Logic, an artist from Maryland to keep your eye on, if you’re not already following him that is. In my humble opinion he is one of the best artists/lyricists this generation. His flow and intelligent lyrics, in tandem with one another, make for one hell of a combination. He currently has 3 free mixtapes available for download all over the web and is well along on his next project. This is his most recently released song, ‘Walk On By’. Check it. Don’t forget to follow him on Twitter @Logic301.
